I love doing my radio bits. Using a laptop, Audacity and a USB microphone, I get to record and embarrass myself in the comfort of my own home. I can also do things with audio that you can’t do in print. Sing, for instance. You can print lyrics but you can’t sing them. The best you can do is add “to the tune of…” like those old Mad Magazine spoofs. I can sing on the radio! I sing far too much on the radio!

Then there’s adding sound effects and music, changing pitch and speed — all enhancing the enjoyment of… well, of me, and hopefully the listener. Given that most people listen to radio in their cars, I like to think I’m doing my small bit to prevent one commuter from crowbarring another.

I guess what I’m saying is that I can get a little self-indulgent with my pieces because they’re a hoot to do. But the Halloween piece below, indulgent or not, may be my favourite because it includes [pauses for effect] the Wilhelm scream!

And that’s really all you need to know.

About rossmurray1

I'm Canadian so I pronounce it "Aboot." No, I don't! I don't know any Canadian who says "aboot." Damnable lies! But I do know this Canadian is all about humour (with a U) and satire. Come by. I don't bite, or as we Canadians say, "beet."
